What does every Brooklyn girl in show business dream of? Being on Broadway, of course. Elayne Boosler, Broadway Baby, fulfills that dream. It is funny and smart, and it set the bar for creative, full production opening scenes in standup specials. It’s a full musical comedy opening shot live, right down Broadway, followed by one of the funniest specials ever.
Boosler is best known for her thoughtful and feisty socially conscious humor, and her love of baseball and animals, all sharing a big part of her act. For over forty years, she has appeared on seemingly every talk show ever on TV, has written and starred in five of her own one-hour Showtime standup comedy specials, written and directed two movies for Cinemax, appeared regularly on HBO’s Comic Relief, on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher over thirty times, and has hosted innumerable specials, series, and events both live and on TV. She performed at the White House Press Correspondents Dinner for Bill Clinton’s first year in office, played Ford’s Theater for congress and the president, and entertained the Queen of England at the Command Performance. She has toured Africa and the Middle East for our troops. In 2016, she performed throughout Israel as part of Comedy for Koby, a fundraising tour for children affected by violence throughout the region.
“Yes I was at the first female standup comic to have a cable special. The political jokes in these specials could have been written today. That’s how slowly things change. Great for me, bad for us,” said Elayne Boosler, the comedian, herself.
